1/2 says...

Today we have been very busy. In Kylie's Literacy group we made some things with playdoh and wrote about it. In Lois's Literacy group we read 'Sandy Beach' and wrote about the characters. In Jane's Literacy group we read 'Grandpa and Thomas' and wrote about the beach. In Debbie's Literacy group we had to make up a story. The story started with 'I found a box and....' and we had to make up the rest. In Maths the Grade 1's made 2 digit numbers using ten frames. The Grade 2's in Maths wrote the numbers in words and played zero to 500. Lois beat the kids. Tomorrow we are starting groups! We are very excited.

Debbie's Home Group

In our Home Group we have been talking about friendship and our school values. We have also been reading lots of special books that we have brought from home. We have a special show and tell bag. Everyday one person brings something special from home to share with our home group. We also have a special friend called Oscar the Bear who is in our Home Group. He likes going home to our houses. He has a special journal that we write in and share at Home Group time.

Kylie's Home Group

Our Home Group enjoys playing different games like ‘Whispers’, ‘Winking’ and ‘Buzz’. We’ve already been lucky enough to celebrate some of our classmate’s birthdays this year and look forward to celebrating the rest as the year progresses.

Jane's Home Group

We have Home Group every morning and just before we head for home in the afternoon. During these times we love playing quick little games like, 'statues' and 'follow the leader'. Getting together is great fun because we can share our celebrations and discuss any important things as a group. We are looking forward to sending our Home Group mascot home early next term.

Lois's Home Group

During Home Group time we have been discussing ‘what makes a good friend.’ We have been talking about how to play together and how to include others in our games. Our Home Group Sharing Bag is being taken home by one child each night and they are bringing back a toy to share with us the next school day. Later on this term, our Home Group mascot will begin to visit our homes and enjoy completing activities with us.

Rob's Home Group

In our home group we discuss what we are looking forward to about the day to come. At the end of that day we reflect on new things that we learnt and enjoyed. We have a weather person each morning who reports the weather forecast for the day. We remind ourselves of the school values, the importance they have and to make sure they are being displayed at all times. We play a maths guessing game on the white board as often as we can to make our time together fun.

Our First Prep - Year 4 Assembly

Today we had our very first assembly. We all got together in the drama space in the Gym this morning, singing the National Athem that we have been practicing during Music. Our first Learner of the Weeks were presented along with 4 Citizen awards for students who display our School values - Personal Best, Honesty, Belonging & Respect. The students who received these awards are in the picture above. We are looking forward to more assemblies and the chance to share our celebrations with our families.

A New Year @ The Lakes!

Welcome to the new school year for 2008! What an exciting few weeks it has already been. We have started the year with 80 students in year 1/2, and are lucky enough to be working in the newest building to be open on the school grounds. During these first few weeks we have seen our new students settle into their surroundings with the help of those who already know the ropes. The year 1/2's have been involved in many activites this past week. All encouarging working with others and making new friends. The teaching staff (Lois Stanley, Debbie Rainbow, Kylie Hewitt, Jane Black, Rob Zull & Melanie O'Reilly) have been itching to get to know all the students! They have been working hard with many small groups to try to learn more about each of them. This week we will be starting to work in our English and Mathematic groups, and sinking our teeth into our Integrated topic of 'Safety'.
