Our Last Week

Today we looked at our new school. Some of us helped carry things for the teachers. All the things are new and in our pod. In our pod there are special 'jelly bean' tables that we will do our guided reading in. We also have very cool yellow tables to work on. In each pod we have Smart Boards and we can't wait to play on them. We found our lockers, tubs and where our literacy and Home Groups will be. We were really lucky because we could explore the other pods as well. We also saw the Library in there we have special ball chairs. They are really comfortable. There were also rocking chairs that play music and books. On Wednesday the Preps, 1/2s and 3/4s went to ScienceWorks. We learnt lots of things about lightning. If there is lightning when we are in a plane, the lightning hits the wing and then travels across to the other wing. This means we are safe when we are in the plane. We won't be safe if we are under a tree and lightning strikes. We also learnt not to put metal things into a toaster. Everything at ScienceWorks was heaps of fun.

Have a fun and safe holiday. See you at our new campus!

Celebration Day for the Grade 1/2s

The 1/2s are having a party this Friday. We hope that some parents can come to our celebration. The kids are bringing a plate of healthy food, like apples, oranges, carrots and watermelon. We have worked on a slide show for the afternoon. We have a good day ahead of us. The Music group are going to sing, "Yummy Food March". We want the parents to see all the work we have been doing. See all the parents on Friday.

Grade 1/2's Term 2 journey

This Term we are learning all about food. Healthy food, sometimes food and unhealthy food. We have been to the Queen Victoria Market. We bought some food that was on our list. We had $5 to spend at the market. Some people bought, toffee apples, hot jam donuts and biscuits. After the market we went to the beach. It was the Williamstown beach. We ate our lunch, saw some boats and played on the playground. We went on the shore and ate some hot chips.

We have walked up to the new campus with the Grade 3/4's and the Preps. Kerrie and Warren came with us. When we got their the we put our hands in some wet cement. It felt rocky, squishy, slimy, jelly like, gooey, sticky, flaky, cold and like playdoh. After we put our hands in the cement we had to wash our hands in cold water in a bucket. Then we walked back to school.

We have finished our old groups this Wednesday. Next Wednesday we start our new groups. We are doing Bike ed, origami, board games, games workshop, craft time and cooking.

This week we were filmed by some people. They filmed us working. Some people will be in the DVD.

Happy Easter from the 1/2's

This week we have done some Easter activities. We made Easter baskets, Easter bunny cards and traced a giant egg. The grade 1’s coloured and counted shapes on a bunny and did a dot to dot. The grade 2’s had to work out addition problems and colour each section a different colour.

This Thursday we have an Easter bonnet parade with the Preps and 3/4’s. We have an assembly on Thursday afternoon. Some of us will sing a special song that we have learnt in music. It is also an early finish.

We hope you have a happy Easter and get lots of eggs! See you in a couple of weeks!

Love the 1/2’s

A visit from the CFA

Today we had a visit from the CFA, they taught us how to check the door at our house to see if there was a fire on the other side. This is a video of us crawling under a smoke blanket and practising checking for fire.

1/2 says...

On Thursday the 28th of February a lady called Raelene came with a dog named Milo. She taught us lots of things like:
1. When you see an angry dog you stand still, put your hands in a fist by your side, be as quiet as a mouse then you put your head down to the ground. You wait for the angry dog to go away and then you walk quietly and slowly backwards. When you arrive safely to your destination you need to tell a trusted adult about the angry dog.
2. When dogs are sleeping you don’t pat it.
3. If you see a sad dog you leave it alone.
4. When dogs are eating you leave it alone
5. When dogs have puppies you leave them alone
6. When you are hugging your dog don’t hug him close to your face
7. You don’t touch a dog that has been tied up outside of a shop.
8. You always say PLEASE before you pat a stranger’s dog.
9. You need to let dogs smell your hand before you pat them and you always pat the dog the same way the dog’s hair runs. You don’t want to ruin a dog’s hairstyle.
10. Don’t jump over a fence if your ball goes over it, there might be a angry dog on the other side
Some dogs are trained to be guard dogs. These dogs wear a special collar and there is a special sign that warns us that there is a dangerous dog around.
11. Some people got to pat Milo to practise the things we learnt
12. We sang a special song to teach us all these rules.

We had a great day
